Secure Key is a device for creating a one-time password which enhances security when you log in HSBC Bank Retail Internet Banking.

You may log in internet banking by entering a 6-digit password created by your Secure Key that can be turned on with a PIN code which would be defined by you only, after entering your internet banking user name and password.

How Can You Make an Application For Secure Key?

You can apply for a Secure Key through Internet Banking / Security Settings / Secure Key Transactions menu or by calling HSBC Bank Telephone Banking 0850 211 0 111.

Have You Received Your Secure Key?

You should log in internet banking, follow the instructions on Security Settings / Secure Key Transactions menu and activate secure key in order to use your Secure Key.

Secure Key User's Guide

Hold the green button on the lower-right corner on your Secure Key for 2 seconds. When you see the wording "PIN" on the screen, enter the PIN code you defined. The wording “HSBC” will be displayed on the screen upon entering the PIN code correctly. Press the green button on the lower-right corner for once to create a one-time password.

Secure Key does not include a power off button. The device will turn off automatically in 30 seconds if no actions are taken.

Red Button

When activating your Secure Key, press to confirm the PIN you initially entered.

Green Button

  • Hold for 2 seconds to turn on the device.
  • Press once to delete a character you enter.
  • Hold to delete the entire entry.
  • Press once to create a one-time password after you enter your PIN code

After logging in HSBC Retail Internet Banking, go to the following page: Security Settings / Secure Key Activation. Enter the serial number at the back side of your Secure Key in the respective field and press OK button. Hold the green button on the lower-right corner on your Secure Key for 2 seconds. After the wording "NEW PIN" appears on the screen, enter your PIN code you would define consisting of 4-8 digits to be used to turn on your Secure Key and press the red button on the left corner. When the wording “NEW PIN CONF” appears on the screen, insert your PIN code once again in the same way.

Upon entering the PIN code correctly the wording "HSBC" will appear on the screen. Press the green button on the lower-right corner for once to create a one-time password.

Reminder: If you enter repeated numbers such as 1111 or successive numbers such as 1234 as a PIN code for your Secure Key, the wording “Not Safe” will appear on the screen. You will not be allowed to define such insecure number sequence as a PIN.

Reminder 2: Upon activating your Secure Key your option for logging in internet banking will be updated as “Only Secure Key”. In this case you will not be allowed to log in internet banking if you do not have your Secure Key with you. You may revise the option for logging in internet banking from the following screen: My Security Settings/Internet Banking Log-in Option.

If you enter an incorrect PIN code for your Secure Key, the wording “FAIL 001” will appear on the screen. A warning will be displayed on the screen indicating the number of incorrect entries for each successive attempt failed. If you enter an incorrect PIN for 3 times successively, the wordings “FAIL 003” and “LOCK PIN” will appear on the screen. In this case your Secure Key will lock and display a 7-digit PUK code that should be entered to enable it again.

If you have HSBC Credit Card or Debit Card; please click “Secure Key Pin Reset” button on internet banking home screen in order to unlock your Secure Key. After entering the required information on the page displayed, an unlock code required to unlock your Secure Key will be sent to your mobile phone known to the Bank by SMS.

If you do not have HSBC Credit Card or Debit Card; please call HSBC Bank Telephone Banking (0850 211 0 111) to receive an unlock code required to unlock your Secure Key to be sent to your mobile phone known to the Bank by SMS.

If you have another option to log in internet banking other than Secure Key, please log in internet banking and go to Security Settings / Secure Key Pin Reset menu to receive an unlock code required to unlock your Secure Key to be sent to your mobile phone known to the Bank by SMS.

After receiving Unlock Code by SMS; Press the green button on the lower-right corner on the screen where PUK code is displayed on your Secure Key once and enter unlock code sent to your mobile phone.

Upon entering unlock code successfully your Secure Key will guide you to define a new PIN code. Please enter the PIN code you would define consisting of 4-8 digits and press the red button. Enter your PIN code once again for confirmation. When you complete the process successfully, the wording “HSBC” will appear on the screen.

New PIN

You will need to create a new Secure Key PIN. Think of a PIN between 4 and 8 digits long. You should avoid using sequential or repeated numbers such as 1234 or 1111. Enter this in to your Secure Key. Press the red button.

Note: If you make a mistake entering your PIN, you can use the green button to delete the last digit you have input.

PIN CONF -----

The PIN you are setting up needs to be confirmed. Re-enter the PIN into the Secure Key.

NEW PIN CONF HSBC

You have successfully set-up your PIN. You can now use your Secure Key to generate a security code.

FAIL PIN

Your confirmation PIN did not match the first PIN entered. Press the red button and repeat the steps to set up a PIN.

LOCK PIN FAIL 1

The PIN reset code has been entered incorrectly. Press the green button lightly and quickly - do not hold it down. You will then be prompted to enter the reset code again. You should ensure that you are entering the reset code exactly as it appears on screen.

LOCK PIN FAIL 2

To protect you from fraud, the Secure Key will lock after three incorrect entries.

LOCK PIN FAIL 3

The PIN reset code was entered incorrectly for the third time. The Secure Key is now temporarily locked.

This message will remain on the screen of the Secure Key until the lock out has expired, then the Key will automatically power off.

When the Secure Key is turned back on 'LOCK PIN' and a 7 digit number will be displayed on the screen. Press the green button lightly and quickly, do not hold it down and enter the same PIN reset code again. You should ensure that you are entering the code exactly as it appears on screen.

LOCK PIN FAIL 4

The PIN reset code was entered incorrectly for the fourth time. The Secure Key is now temporarily locked. This message will remain on the screen of the Secure Key until the lock out has expired, then the Key will automatically power off.

When Secure Key is turned back on, 'LOCK PIN' and a 7 digit number will be displayed on the screen. Press the green button lightly and quickly, do not hold it down and enter the same PIN reset code again. You should ensure that you are entering the reset code exactly as it appears.

NEW PIN not SAFE

The new PIN that you have entered is not safe and could be guessed. Please enter another PIN.

The PIN should be between 4 and 8 digits long and should not be sequential or use repeating numbers. For example - you should avoid using 1234 or 1111.

PIN -----

Secure Key is waiting for you to enter your PIN. Enter your PIN. The number of dashes shown on the screen, is equal to the number of digits in your PIN.

This is the welcome screen. You will see this once your PIN has been accepted. Press the green button to generate your security code.

PIN FAIL 1

The PIN entered is incorrect. Press the green button lightly and quickly - do not hold it down. This will return you to the PIN entry screen. You will then be prompted to input your PIN again.

PIN FAIL 2

The PIN entered is incorrect. Press the green button lightly and quickly - do not hold it down. This will return you to the PIN entry screen.

You will then be prompted to input your PIN for the third time. To protect you from fraud, the Secure Key will lock after three incorrect PIN entries.

PIN FAIL 3

The entered PIN is incorrect. The Secure Key is locked and will need to be reset. To do this please follow the instructions on Secure Key User’s Guide.

LOCK PIN 4635135

Your HSBC Secure Key is locked. To continue using Internet Banking, you will need to unlock it. A reset code needs to be generated to unlock the Secure Key. To do this please follow the instructions on Secure Key User’s Guide.

LOCK PIN -----

Secure Key is waiting for you to enter your PIN reset code. Input the seven digit PIN reset code.

Once input correctly, you will be prompted to set up a new PIN.

LOCK NEW PIN -

Secure Key is unlocked and a new PIN needs to be set-up. Think of a PIN between 4 and 8 digits long. You should avoid using sequential or repeated numbers such as 1234 or 1111. Enter this in to your Secure Key. Press the red button.

Note: If you make a mistake entering your PIN, you can use the green button to delete the last digit you have input.

You should turn the Secure Key back on, enter your PIN and repeat what you were trying to do.

I have lost my Secure Key / my Secure Key is stolen, what should I do?

If you believe that you have lost your Secure Key or it is stolen, please call HSBC Bank Telephone Banking (0850 211 0 111) to disable it.
