What is SMS One Time Password?

SMS One Time Password is the password that is sent to your registered mobile phone via SMS to log on to Internet Banking. You will only have a limited access to Internet Banking with SMS One Time Password. In order to have full access you need a Secure Key or Digital Secure Key. How is SMS One Time Password Used?

The steps are as follows

Log on with SMS OTP option is available for 2 cases.

  • You can log on to internet banking with SMS OTP if you do not have an active Secure Key or Digital Secure Key
  • You can log on to Internet Banking with SMS OTP, if you don’t have access to your Secure Key or Digital Secure Key.

For both cases, you will have limited access to Internet Banking Transactions

Do I pay for SMS One Time Password?

One Time Password SMSs are free of charge.

Can the subscribers of all operators benefit from SMS One Time Password?

The subscribers of all operators can benefit from SMS One Time Password.

Can I log on to Internet Banking without SMS One Time Password?

You will have limited access to Internet Banking transactions when you log on via SMS One Time Password. You need a Secure Key or Digital Secure Key in order to have full access to Personal Internet Banking
So you can prefer to use Secure Key or Digital Secure Key rather than SMS One Time Password.

I did not receive SMS One Time Password to my mobile phone, what can I do?

In case of excessive usage of your mobile mailbox or if you're abroad and your service is inactive for International Roaming, the messages we sent may not be received. Please check your SMS inbox periodically and if you are abroad and your mobile is inactive for International Roaming, contact your GSM operator to activate International Roaming.

I don’t have a mobile phone, how can I benefit from SMS One Time Password?

You will have limited access to Internet Banking transactions when you log on via SMS One Time Password. You need a Secure Key or Digital Secure Key in order to have full access to Personal Internet Banking So you can prefer to use Secure Key or Digital Secure Key rather than SMS One Time Password.

I have mistakenly deleted the password I received. What shall I do?

A “SMS One Time Password” will be sent again when you restart the log on steps.

Do I need to save the passwords sent to me to make transactions?

The passwords that are sent to your mobile phone are only valid for the log on session you are in. Since they cannot be used in the next sessions, there is no need to save them, you can delete them after usage.

What shall I do when my mobile phone number changes?

In the case that your mobile phone number changes, you should update your mobile phone number recorded in our bank. You can realise that from,

  • HSBC ATMs if you have a HSBC Debit Card or Credit Card and PIN,
  • Or from our branches.
