Do all banks offer the same features and benefits in their credit cards?

The fundamental function is the same and the features and benefits are similar or comparable. Differences are grounded in the strategy each bank follows in order to compete effectively with other banks. The most common differences are in interest rates, fees, minimum repayment amount, credit limit, interest calculation method, protected coverage, product variety, and services and benefits. Because a cash advance transaction is considered a cash loan.

In which currency do my overseas expenditures appear in my statement, and what exchange rates are used in the conversion process?

Overseas expenditures made in USD appear in the original currency and amount. Expenditures in other foreign currencies are converted to USD using internationally recognised official exchange rates (Visa, MasterCard®). During this process a conversion commission, which varies according to the region, is added to the amount the customer is to pay. Overseas expenditures are converted to TL for customers who want to receive their statements in TL. For customers who want USD statements, these expenditures are shown in USD.

What are the differences between the statement date and the payment due date?

The transactions of customers are recorded daily by the bank. Records through a designated date are printed together and sent to the customer as statements. This date is called the statement date. The payment due date is the latest date that the amount on the statement is to be paid by the customer. If the minimum payment amount is not paid by the due date, the delinquency interest is accrued on the unpaid portion of this amount from the due date until the next statement date; other sanctions may also apply (such as decreasing the limit, rejecting authorisation requests, and blocking or cancelling the account). The payment due date for the next period is stated in each statement so that customers can plan ahead.

Can I use my credit card on the Internet or other electronic media for ordering goods or paying membership dues?

Yes, credit cards can be used to make online payments for purchases or membership dues. However, this runs the risk of other people obtaining your account details and using your card. The HSBC Advantage Virtual Card has been especially designed for use on the Internet. Its line of credit is available and accessible only at the instant you use it and only for the amount you wish to spend. Since the limit is reset to zero when you execute a transaction, the HSBC Advantage Virtual Card is not open to abuse.

I became a member of a site on the Internet by giving my credit card details. Although I want to cancel my membership, they continue to charge the membership fee to my account every month. How can I stop this?

You should write to the same e-mail address or physical address that you used in applying for membership, and declare that you want to cancel your membership. If the membership fee is still charged, you should consult the bank using cancellation notification documents. If you become a member using your HSBC Advantage Virtual Card, no membership fee etc. can be charged to your account without your consent.

Your PIN could also be a portion of a telephone number that you have memorized.

Are there any highlights I should pay special attention to for my safety while using my credit card?

Never give your password to someone else, not even to a salesperson. Do not allow other people to use your credit card. Avoid recording your PIN; do not write it down on your card or elsewhere. HSBC / HSBC employees will never ask you to tell or send by email your PIN; for your own safety, please ignore this kind of requests. Avoid setting your PIN as your birth date or choosing easy to guess series such as 1234 or 9999.
